The Ubosoth Wat khao Angkhan

วัดเขา อังคาร เป็นสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวที่ได้รับความนิยมมากที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งในจังหวัดบุรีรัมย์ ตั้งอยู่บนเขาพระอังคาร ภูเขาไฟที่ดับแล้ว ห่างจากพนมรุ้ง 18 กิโลเมตร วัดเขาอังคาร เป็นสถาปัตยกรรมผสมผสานของศิลปะไทยหลายสมัย ภายในอุโบสถ มีภาพจิตรกรรมฝาผนังผนังเป็นเรื่องราวของพุทธศาสนา รอบพระอุโบสถ ล้อมรอบด้วยพระพุทธรูปจำนวนมาก ในวัดแห่งนี้พบใบเสมาหินทรายสมัยทวารวดีซึ่งพบแห่งเดียวในภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ นอกจากนี้บนเทือกเขาพระอังคารมีพระพุทธรูปปางไสยาสน์ขนาดใหญ่อยู่เบื้องหน้าก่อนเข้าบริเวณภายในวัด

เขาพระอังคาร เป็นภูเขาไฟที่ดับแล้ว ในประวัติลายแทงธาตุพนมกล่าวว่า เมื่อ พุทธศักราช 8 มีการนำพระอังคารธาตุ ( เถ้ากระดูก) ของพระพุทธเจ้า มาประดิษฐาน ณ ภูเขาลูกนี้ จนถึงพุทธศักราช 2520 พระอาจารย์ปัญญา วุฒิโธ จึงได้มาสร้างวัดบนยอดเขา และนำพระอังคารธาตุขึ้นบรรจุในสถูปบนยอดของอุโบสถที่สร้างขึ้น โดยนำศิลปะสมัยต่างๆมาผสมผสานกัน ภายในบริเวณวัด นอกจากจะมีสถาปัตยกรรมไทยที่ประยุกต์ สวยงามหลากหลายแล้ว ยังมีโบราณวัตถุที่สำคัญคือ ใบเสมาหินบะซอลท์สมัยทวาราวดี ซึ่งพบเพียงแห่งเดียวในประเทศไทย ตั้งอยู่รอบอุโบสถ ใบเสมาเหล่านี้ มีภาพสลักรูปบุคคล สถูป ดอกบัว และธรรมจักร สันนิษฐานว่าสร้างขึ้นในราวพุทธศตวรรษที่ 13 -14 อายุประมาณ 1,300 ปี เป็นหลักฐานว่าที่นี่ เคยเป็นพุทธสถานมาแต่โบราณ

Wat Khao Angkarn, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Buriram,

is on an extinct volcano 18 kilometers from Phanom Rung. Wat Khao Angkhan represents an interesting mixture of architecture from various periods including ordination hall, pavilion and building. Inside the main building are wall murals and stories of Buddhism told in English and the ordination hall was surrounded by Buddha images. Many Dvaravati sandstone temple boundary markers, which have rarely been found in the northeast, have been discovered here. Furthermore, on the massif of Khao Angkarn is a huge reclining Buddha image.

Khao Phra Angkhan : It is locate on top of Phu Khao Angkhan at Ban Charoen Suk, Amphoe Chaloem Phra Kiat, Buriram Province, is an extinct volcano mentioned in the legend of that Phanom that in 535 BC, Buddha’s ashes were place here. In 1977, Phra Achan Panyawutthito came to build a temple on the hilltop and moved the Buddha’s ashes to store in the stupas on the top of ubosoth which built in a unique style combining Thai arts of various periods. Surrounding the ubosoth are ancient Sema stones(boundary stones) from Davaravati period made of basalt which found nowhere else in Thailand. On this Sema are bas – relief of person, stupa, lotus and wheel of dramacakra – the wheel of the Doctrine date back to the 8^th – 9 ^th Century or about 1300 years ago. They proved the ancient communities’ belief in Buddhism around this are in the past.
